Domestic Violence Orders: National Enforcement
New laws have been introduced for all Australia to improve the protection of victims of domestic violence. From 25 November 2017 all domestic violence orders issued are now automatically recognised and enforceable.
Existing state and territory laws protecting victims and affected family members from domestic violence have not changed..
Domestic Violence Orders issued prior to 25 November 2017: You can choose to have it declared at any time to protect you nationwide, by applying to any local court in Australia. It does not have to be the court in the state or territory where the order was made.
If the order was made after 25 November 2017 it is enforceable nationwide. You do not need to take any further action.
